Lucknow: On October 21, 2024, the Ghazipur Police Station in Lucknow received a complaint from Anil Kumar Mishra, a resident of Sanatan Nagar Kamta, Chinhat, regarding the theft of his white scooty (registration number UP32EG4223). An unknown person had stolen the vehicle, and an FIR (No. 461/2024) was filed under Section 303(2) BNS against an unknown accused. The Ghazipur police immediately began their search, utilizing ground intelligence and CCTV footage.

During their investigation, the police team, while patrolling in Sector 8, received a tipoff from an informer that the stolen scooty was seen parked in front of Ramesh Yadav’s house in Gyan Vihar Colony. The informant also mentioned that the thief had taken the scooty the previous day by breaking the lock and was spotted heading from Munshi Pulia Square towards Polytechnic Square on the stolen vehicle.

Acting on this information, the police set up a covert position behind a pillar under the metro line, about 150 meters before the Polytechnic crossing. Soon, they spotted a man riding a white scooty, matching the description given by the informant. When signaled to stop, the man attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the police.

Upon questioning, the man identified himself as Manoj Sahu alias Madi, a 25-year-old resident of Patel Nagar, Ghazipur. He confessed to the theft, apologizing for his actions and revealing that he had stolen the scooty on October 20, 2024, from Gyan Vihar Colony using a master key. He admitted that he was on his way to Chinhat to sell the stolen vehicle when he was caught.

Following his confession, the police registered additional charges under Section 317(2) BNS, and Manoj Sahu was taken into custody. The stolen scooty was recovered, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused.

The swift response and effective coordination by the Ghazipur Police, led by the use of intelligence and prompt action, have been praised, ensuring that the thief was apprehended before he could escape or sell the stolen property.
